What does the Defence GP training programme consist of?
4 x 4 month secondary care placements in Ministry of Defence Hospital Units (MDHUs) and 20 months GP Practice Placement (mix of civilian and military practice).
Where are the hospital placements?
There are 4 placements taken at MDHU Frimley Park, MDHU Derriford, MDHU Portsmouth, MDHU Northallerton, MDHU Peterborough, Department of Community Mental Health (DCMH) Portsmouth (Psych), DCMH Brize Norton or DMRC Headley Court.
What is the duration for an NHS GP Placement?
The length of individual placements varies from 6 - 20 months.
What level do the Trainees start GP placements?
Usually ST2 - 3 but some GPStRs complete GP Placement in ST1 depending on personal circumstances and previous experience.
Will the Trainee be deployed during a Practice placement?
No

Is the GP Trainer an Educational or Clinical Supervisor?
The GP Trainer is both Educational and Clinical Supervisor. Their duties are explained in the SLA.

Issues relating to e Portfolio can be reported to the e Portfolio Champion at the Defence Deanery, currently Miss Karen Tonks.
