At the beginning of ST1 the GP trainees are split into small groups, which you will then stay in throughout your ST1 and 2 year. These groups meet approximately once a month throughout these two years for flexible teaching sessions, which will broadly cover the clinical aspects of the GP curriculum. Trainees will be given topics to prepare and present, there will be the opportunity to meet up with other GP trainees for discussion, tips for the exams, help with the e-portfolio, and the chance to address any other issues that arise in training or elsewhere. The first part of these sessions is held jointly with an ST2 group, with the opportunity to share advice and experience, and the groups will be facilitated by a nominated GP Educator. There are many other educational opportunities available including membership for the Bath GP Education Research Trust (BGPERT), and the GP Education team are always available for help and advice, please contact us via Maria Phantis in the PGMC. During ST1 the majority of posts will be hospital based, then in ST2 you will spend 6 months in General Practice. The hospital posts last 4 or 6 months depending on the speciality and rotation. They are all subject to annual quality assurance, and we request that trainees fill in feedback forms following each post so we can ensure ongoing high standards of training.
