GP Registrar Training

Our long established four partner practice has been training for 15 years.

Since we moved to new, purpose built premises twelve years ago, the registrar has their own fully equipped room next door to the trainer.

The ethos of the practice is holistic, and we work alongside a team of complementary therapists in our building. Training is part of our philosophy too, 3 of the 4 partners are trainers, and the manager and nurses are involved in training as well.

Each trainer has outside interests which add a dimension to our training.

Susan Cooper has been a trainer for 12 years.. She has special interests in women's problems including family planning and the menopause, rational prescribing and IT. She is the practice QOF lead and mentors the Nurses and Health Care Assistants. She has 3 nearly grown -up children and is skilled in balancing the demands of professional life and home. She does the OOH training for the practice.

Richard Wharton has been a trainer for 10 years, and is also educational tutor for GPs and the local PCT. His expertise in professional development is invaluable. He has also pioneered one to one minor surgery teaching in a special monthly session. He advises on video consultation analysis and consultation skills. He leads on health promotion, with our highly qualified practice nurses, Jo Wilson and Jill Peel.

Brian Conway was lead trainer for ten years. As Chair of the PCT executive committee, he has a good grasp of practice organisation, medical politics and finance and gives tutorials on these topics.

Ruth Grabham, our youngest partner, is a clinical assistant in cardiology, and happy to assist on this topic.

The practice has a happy team atmosphere, and there is always someone around to answer your queries. We believe in a team approach, and at coffee or lunchtime you will often find informal discussions among partners, assistants and nurses. There are regular team meetings to look at practice development and significant events.

The practice is often in the forefront of innovation in Primary Care; we are fully computerised and almost paperless; we have been in PMS contract for over a year; we have practice physiotherapy, psychotherapy, chiropody and homoeopathy, as well as a team of complementary therapists in a separate suite, in private practice. We provide full services including minor surgery, family planning, coil insertion, pregnancy care, child health surveillance, travel clinic and specialist health promotion including stop smoking clinics.

We hope you will contact us to come and meet us informally and have a look round.
